El Maguey in Elgin

Great place to get some tacos!!! Or pretty much anything else Mexican you want! If you dont mind the smoking bar it is pretty amazing! A must find in Elgin!

Ordered a michelada and beef fajitas, unfortunately it was the worst tasting michelada that I have expperience in my life,it just tasted like hot sauce. My food was just ok, the meat was very dry . Also they have a juke box that only plays at the bar, very rarely I find a Mexican restaurant with no music playing. Other than that service was ok.

The food was really tasty. I'm used to great Mexican food from Houston, so I was very surprised to find the food so good in a small town. The salsa was better than almost anywhere that I can get in Houston tho. Mildly spicy and super fresh. Chips made and not from a bag. The fajita burrito was fantastic. Definately will come back on my way through here again

Not for family with kids because they smoke inside by the bar and let me tell you it smells bad. Will not go there again.

Customer service was ok. The only good thing was the chips and salsa. The food was not very good. I've been to better places. Do not recommend.

I come here at least twice a month and I have always enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere.

We enjoyed our dinner and thought the chips and salsa were delicious! The guac was fresh and tasty. Their margaritas and draft beer were on point too. My boyfriend and I will definitely be back next time we are in Elgin.

The food was actually pretty decent for the price. What killed if for me were the people smoking inside while we were eating. If it weren't for that I'd give this place 4 stars.

I have been here for breakfast and dinner. Let me just say it's delicious. It reminds of a restaurant from old East Austin. It's not Tex-Mex it's not Mexican. It's Austin Mexican food. Prices are more than reasonable and worth every penny. We will be here again. Enchiladas are recommended!

First timer here but food was excellent and so where the prices. Everyone got something different and it was all good. Will definitely stop by again when I'm the Elgin area. Would recommend if you have some time to waste and need a nice meal

Was there for a wedding and food and staff was great.

The food and service was awesome, very nice place to eat and bar drinks. The staff was excellent. The Fajitas are great with flavor.

Two stars for the food being decent. But, I can't go any higher than that, due to all of the smoking in the building. Everything spelled of cigarette smoke. We wanted to give them a chance and powered through the disgusting smell. They definitely need to either not let people smoke inside, or close the doors to that side of the building.We won't be back because of the disgusting cancer smoke.

Food was mediocre at best. The guacamole was brown and not fresh. Service was very slow and server did not check on our table near enough. Wanted to like it, but it was just not a good experience.

Inexpensive restaurant with good service. Food was more in line with American mexican and not authentic. The food tasted fine and was a good value. I would go here again.

Great place for breakfast. Right on main street Elgin. However there is an open arch between the bar and restaurant. So if you have a high sensitivity to smoke you might sense it. It really isn't bad.

I really enjoyed the food!! El Maguey is very reasonable has a great variety to choose from.

One of Elgin's hidden gems, this restaurant serves truly authentic Mexican food in a traditional setting, at very reasonable prices. Wait staff is very friendly and the service is amazingly fast. Only drawback was that they put beef gravy on the cheese enchiladas, but they immediately replaced them with ones covered in queso.

Sorry guys but 2019 smoking in a restaurant...I covered smoking patio a separate completely isolated from air conditioning and doorways section. To have the smoking area completely open with the kitchen... I'm sorry but I don't want any cigarette Ash in my food.

Service was subpar. Food was excellent, bar tender did not want to make top shelf margaritas (was happy to mix them when one of us approached) & took forever to get the check. Cigarette smoke was BAD.

As we walked in the door the smell of smoke hit our faces, they didn’t have what we wanted which was carna asada although it is on the menu,the food was cold and the taste was like no Mexican restaurant I’ve ever tasted, it was horrible. I will never come or recommend this place to anyone!

One of my favorite places to eat in Elgin. Service is pleasant and orders dont take long. Best place to eat for lunch cant really beat their lunch prices Monday thu Friday.

The beans always taste either burnt or expired. I have given this place a try at least 4 times over the year, I have not found anything I like there. Yuck! Horrible customer service!

Wasnt able taste the food. Due to being a late event. But I ordered a piña colada and it was delicious!

friendly staff, I love the owner, Juan, he is a great guy. I had a margarita and some chips and dip. Great bar, nice t.v.'s to enjoy sports and great good. you will enjoy the roomy atmosphere. Juke box jams loud tunes too. separate bar area and dining area. excellent for families or friends after work.

Good value for the food. Margaritas are very small for the $ but are flavorful. Would have gotten 5 stars if margaritas were larger for the money that is spent for them.

I ordered 4 tacos of chorizo Con papas and they gave me hard as papas and as you can see if the pictures had regular Fry’s In side the taco I ordered that because I needed something soft Because I had went to the dentist and I need some soft. So I couldn’t eat it. Also I will nerve go back to this place
